April, May, June, & July 2021 Monthly Recap
This year seems to be going by faster and faster each month! One minute the summer is just beginning and the next minute it’s almost time for a new school year to start.
This recap will be a little bit longer than my usual, there’s so much time to cover! But ultimately my goal is to document this year and keep you guys in on the journey.
HIGHLIGHTS
April & May:
One of my favorite things that happened in these two months was growing new friendships and getting to know new people. Moving across the country to somewhere I’ve never been can be daunting alone, but creating new friendships has proved to be way harder than I had known. The friends and people I have been blessed with have made it so much better and I love getting to know each of them.
June:
I finally got to go home again! The last time I was home was 6 months ago for Christmas. I started planning this trip back in February and counted down the days ever since! I spent the first two weeks of June at home and it was some of the best times my family and I have had together. With a lot of my siblings moving out and living in different states and doing their own thing, family time is becoming something I value more and more.
July:
I had a Bible conference my family and I have been wanting to go to since I was a kid. Though only some of my family members could make it, it was surreal going to something we only ever talked about going to.
LIFE
April:
I worked Sundays, but work was closed Easter Sunday. It was SO nice to go to church and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ with other believers.
May:
I finished my first year of Bible college. The year seemed to fly by but was filled with so many blessings. Even though the beginning of the school year was a struggle for me, I’ve learned so much and I know there is still so much more to learn next year.
June:
Being home allowed me to celebrate two of my family members’ college graduations and my brother’s high school graduation. I am so proud of them and love seeing what God is doing in their lives.
July:
Though I didn’t get to celebrate The Fourth of July like I usually do, getting to see fireworks all over the city was definitely awesome. This month I also focused on writing more and on creating actionable plans for LLF. I’m excited to see what the future holds.
WATCHLIST
April & May:
Arrow & The Flash
I am in season 5 of Arrow and in season 3 of The Flash, and man they are good! The acting in both shows is just phenomenal and the storylines keep me on the edge of my seat every episode. I am continually impressed with everything both shows have been doing so far.
June:
When Calls The Heart Season 8
I took a pause from my usual shows and watched the most recent season of When Calls The Heart (WCTH). I have been trying to find ways to watch this season without having to pay $20 for the whole season, and I finally saw that Frndly TV offered a free 1 week trial and has Season 8.
If I am being completely honest, it overall was not my favorite season. I still love this show, but the first half of the season was especially rough. It got better in the last couple of episodes, but I am definitely curious to see what Season 9 brings.
July:
Young & Hungry
I took another break from my usual shows and watched Young & Hungry. I am half way through the last season and excited to see how it ends. This show is hilarious!
MUSIC
April-July:
Do I listen to anything besides NF? No, not really.
Ok, sometimes I listen to a general rap playlist. But NF will always be number one.
At the end of July, I rediscovered this playlist that my Spotify makes called “Your Top Songs” of each year and I totally jammed out to songs I forgot I loved.
BUSINESS
April-July:
Instagram: 92 followers, YouTube: 11 subscribers
If I remember correctly, by the end of May, I had 85 followers, and at the end of June, I had 86. But at the end of July, I had 92. So I gained 1 Instagram follower in June and 6 in July. Thank you!
June was a bit of a bummer as far as growth and consistency goes. But July was super exciting for me because I focused on creating more content, and I am excited to share these things with y’all very soon.
My numbers haven’t grown as they could have because I do not post very often at all. Before posting in June, my last IG post was in February.
I honestly did not pay attention to my Instagram account a lot these past few months. And YouTube is honestly a huge struggle for me. I have filmed a lot of videos in the past year, but editing is like rocket science to me and I don’t have the money to pay for a video editor.
But I am not giving up. I have thought about giving up a lot, but the thought of not trying to do the many ideas and projects running around in my head seems like a disservice to myself.
CHALLENGES & LOWS
April & May:
Sleep is way more important than I realized.
Sleep affects way more things than I had ever realized. Last recap I talked about how I was getting between 3 to 4 hours of sleep a night. Now it has been about 2 to 3 ½ hours a night. I thought it was only being caused by bad habits but I think part of it is constant subconscious overthinking.
June:
I have a lot of unfulfilled goals.
June marked half way through 2021 and I just felt way behind on all of my goals for this year. And I felt very unproductive. Looking back and seeing how much I didn’t do yet can make you feel terrible, but I am trying to turn it into motivation to make a change and do better with the rest of the year.
July:
I felt stuck again.
This month I was super unmotivated, felt down and didn’t want to do anything at all. Not only was I seeing all I hadn’t accomplished, I felt stuck in a place of believing there wasn’t really anything I could do about it right now. I think I let my guard down and didn’t actively fight against negative thoughts.
THINGS I’VE LEARNED
May:
I have met some amazing people.
I love my new city and I love the people I have been able to meet. It’s cool getting to see the new people God keeps bringing into my life. It’s nice to be reminded of the amazing people out there and I am learning that you really can meet them anywhere.
June:
Adulting can actually be fun sometimes.
I never thought I’d ever say that. But I’m slowly seeing that there are some parts of it that can be fun. That includes: building and putting together a home for myself, getting to host people at my place, getting to see hard work pay off, learning how to make smarter decisions for myself.
July:
I can’t half-way fight against negativity in life.
If I let negativity in, it can easily take over. Acknowledging isn’t enough. I have to have something to combat it with.
PROGRESS
A lot less shame
While I have been mad at myself for not being as productive as I could, I have been learning to stop being ashamed of myself and my actions. Though July wasn’t my best month with this, it’s been pretty freeing. I have a long way to go, but it’s been a great thing to start.
NEXT MONTH: AUGUST 2021
August comes with a few expected things:
- I’m moving! Not too far, just to a different apartment.
- And my sisters are moving in with me.
- My second year of Bible college will be starting! I feel like the last school year just ended but I am excited to see what this new one brings.
- Some of my brothers are coming to visit and help us move, it will be nice seeing them again.
What’s next for you in August?
